Hamakuapoko

Paia Mill Road crosses Baldwin Ave and continues east as a dirt cane road called Lower Hamakuapoko Rd. It crosses Holomua Rd and continues east until it rejoins Hana Hwy just before Maliko Gulch. According to the 1998 Roads Inventory Report, Hamakuapoko Road is owned & maintained by the County. In 1989 A&B created 4 road-shaped parcels that run along the top of the 339 acres, across Baldwin and east all the way to Maliko Gulch and a future bridge directly to Haiku.

These road-shaped parcels would be an even better route for the bypass east of Baldwin than Hamakuapoko Rd. It would appear that A&B designated this as the route they wanted for the future bypass. Until a bridge is built, motorists could turn left down to Hana Hwy.
